ARE LOCAL CULTURES
WORTH PRESERVING
INTRODUCTION: Cultures differ. People of similar
activities; interested ways belong to the same culture. There are many
different cultures in the world.
CULTURES SHOULD BE
PRESERVED: Because
1. It gives respect for past:
By preserving our culture we pay respect to our ancestors, parents,
grandparents, forefathers and so on.
2. Satisfaction:
By following our tradition, ways we gain sense of satisfaction which in turn is
a great achievement.
3. Sense of belongingness:
By following the ways of our surrounding we develop the sense of belongingness.
4. Links us with old\past:
As is the saying old is gold that is why our past is gold since it is very old.
As far as concerned present stand on past things i.e. our local cultures.
5. Sense of pride:
When our Taj Mahal is declared as the first among the seven wonders of the world,
our pride founds no place.
6. Cultures help us gain strength:
When we think that such old is our culture that we have been practicing it for
so long, this feeling itself gives us inner strength to develop and add
something more in it.
7. Refreshing and energetic:
Our culture refreshes us and gives us energy for overcoming the hurdles and
challenges of life.
8. Faith and sense of
safety and attachment: If we are related to any culture at any
part of the world then we have faith and sense of security. Say for example, suppose
we are hijacked in America’s
plane by any third country. Along with America my Indian government will also
not leave any stone unturned for my safe release.
9. Record:
Our ways, likings, interests are best recorded and reflected in our cultures.
So cultures reflect the past and do the work of record keeping by significant
ways.
10.Our memories are
carried through our cultures: Buddha of India Abraham Lincoln of U.S.A,Mother
Terisa,Gandhiji names and deeds are going to be continued through the ages.
Are Cultures Bad: Not At
All
None of the cultures are
wrong or bad or evil. All the cultures have maximum good things.Yes,it is
different that some of the systems\cultures change a little accordingly shedding some outdated and picking something
new.
Do Cultures Change:
Ought to change: Nothing is
stationary in the world. So cultures also adopt changes just as aggradations
and degradation. The cultures of Mesopotamia,
Egypt, Rome, Harappans, Azetecs
have gone through drastic changes and slow changes, all except the Harrapan
have become extinct, because of continuity of culture.
Cultures should be eco-friendly:
1) Still some people to eat in banana leaf, sitting in queue on the ground.
2) Dragon Boat Festival of China –cooked
rice is fed to the fishes.
No Discrimination:
All (in local culture of India)
have to sit together whether he of a high or low rank or family. They wear
their traditional dresses, speak local language and enjoy up to their fill.
Imitation destroys us:
What ever is increasing should be taken or learnt from others but we should not
forget our cultures goodness in front of others. If reasonable and suitable then
only we should take some little part of others cultures to assimilate in ours,
but we should not totally give up ours or else we should be of no where.
Cultures Unite:
As East Germany
and West Germany
were united again after about 50 years. We can hope that some day same strong culture of India and Pakistan
will once again unite to be one as Hindustan and Bharat
1) Security and peace:
If local cultures are preserved, life would be more secure and happy because
cultural items, may it be folk dances\songs or festivals. Martial art,
handicrafts, art painting any thing-but cultural items
do not need much stress of
finance science and technology. Every thing is simple glorious and beautiful.
2) Following local
cultures is economical: Science and technology has not entered in
our local and remote areas in true sense so following a local culture is
better.
Also science and technology is very costly,
for example if instead of our local folk dances and songs we see at place we go
to see on TV, then first we need to buy
TV then electricity and all. Everyone cannot afford all this.
3)Local cultures are best:
Things made in machine some times is not so nice and descent with varieties
local culture products are pleasurable giving, easy and open for all. Cultures
should be open to all. Culture should be such that they should assimilate all
with love and oneness.
Survival of the fittest
C.Darwin: One who does not change according to the need vanishes.
Example-Is there any sense in grinding wheat flour in saddler’s querns when we
have flour mills to do it in seconds.
Survival of the fittest theory of
C.DARWIN can be said to be a universal truth which can be implemented on the
local cultures. If one sticks to the local cultures too much then he cannot
survive for last. It will have to be extinct cultures have two ways:-
1) Either they should change
other cultures into their own, but it is not a easy task.
2) Change yourself:
This is easy in comparison to the first one. Change may be slow but it really works.
Only we need is that to change ourselves according to surrounding or
environment.
PRESERVING A CULTURE OF
VERY PAST HAS SOME DISADVANTAGES OR NEGATIVE ASPECTS
DISADVANTAGES:-
1) Speed of development is
slow: If we stick to our local cultures for a long time
without bringing any major change then our speed of development slows down.
2) Backwardness if tied
with the past: If we stick to local culture hard and
fast we cannot make pace with the development around us. So we remain backward
while the others go ahead of us.
3) Same things some times
create boredom: If cultural exchanges are not there then
some thing doing\occurring repeatedly brings boredom in our life. The spirit-yawns
for some newness.
4) Local cultural-bounds,
find uneasy to adjust with other cultures:
People of one culture when need to go to other people life becomes very tough
for them. They do not find easy going in other cultures it becomes difficult to
adjust.
5) Few local culture still
treat themselves superior: Few local cultures do not treat other
cultures equal to them as in MAHARASTRA, Mr. Bal Thackeray thinks north Indians
are corrupted. So much economic destruction is caused.
6)Cultures create separatism:
Again I would keep MAHARASTRA culture here as example of separatism bringing a lot of pain and sufferings to so
many others.
Matrimonial Relation cannot be done
between people of different cultures easily. Thus there is separatism as well.
Even if such relations are made. One has to face a lot such as reverned,Mrs.Sonia
Gandhi being of Swiss culture is still not considered of Indian culture and now
and then reminded of her being outsider. Such are the ways of local cultures at
GLOBAL villages.
7) High cultured and low cultured gap still observed: Imperialism and colonialism has ended but
still in some pockets of the world in various forms. Superior and inferior
culture matter is still in the minds of some resulting in disunity.
8)
Misuse of time in modern scientific society: Following local cultures
seems odd in this modern, fast and highly scientific and technical age. Why to
be distinct and aloof when due to modern means we can have fast and better ways
to go ahead.
CONCLUSION:
Unan, misr,
roma sab mit gaye jahan se
Baaki raha
hai lekin namo Nissan hamara
Kuch baat
hai ki hasti mit nahi hamerein
Sadiyon
rahaa hai dushman daure zamaa hamara
Sarein jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara.
Dr.Allama Iqbal
In these lines of Dr.Allama
Iqbal lies the secret of longevity of us Indians.
It is due to our culture of
assimilation, sharing, caring, cooperation that India had reached to its glory but
due to lack of cultural growth, and its position has declined due to which it
had to go into slavery of European.
But once again cultural up
gradation is going on so we have a bright future forward. So vehemently most of
us are of the opinion that local culture should be preserved otherwise we would
be betrayed
India is looked upon for its
ancient achievements that we have once again to regain and develop. And all
this can be done by preserving our culture.
