ARE LOCAL CULTURES WORTH PRESERVING

INTRODUCTION:  Cultures differ. People of similar activities; interested ways belong to the same culture. There are many different cultures in the world.

CULTURES SHOULD BE PRESERVED: Because

1.  It gives respect for past: By preserving our culture we pay respect to our ancestors, parents, grandparents, forefathers and so on.

2. Satisfaction: By following our tradition, ways we gain sense of satisfaction which in turn is a great achievement.

3. Sense of belongingness: By following the ways of our surrounding we develop the sense of belongingness.

4. Links us with old\past: As is the saying old is gold that is why our past is gold since it is very old. As far as concerned present stand on past things i.e. our local cultures.

5. Sense of pride: When our Taj Mahal is declared as the first among the seven wonders of the world, our pride founds no place.

6. Cultures help us gain strength: When we think that such old is our culture that we have been practicing it for so long, this feeling itself gives us inner strength to develop and add something more in it.

7. Refreshing and energetic: Our culture refreshes us and gives us energy for overcoming the hurdles and challenges of life.

8. Faith and sense of safety and attachment: If we are related to any culture at any part of the world then we have faith and sense of security. Say for example, suppose we are hijacked in America’s plane by any third country. Along with America my Indian government will also not leave any stone unturned for my safe release.

9. Record: Our ways, likings, interests are best recorded and reflected in our cultures. So cultures reflect the past and do the work of record keeping by significant ways.

10.Our memories are carried through our cultures: Buddha of India Abraham Lincoln of U.S.A,Mother Terisa,Gandhiji names and deeds are going to be continued through the ages.

Are Cultures Bad: Not At All

None of the cultures are wrong or bad or evil. All the cultures have maximum good things.Yes,it is different that some of the systems\cultures change a little accordingly  shedding some outdated and picking something new.

Do Cultures Change: Ought to change:        Nothing is stationary in the world. So cultures also adopt changes just as aggradations and degradation. The cultures of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Rome, Harappans, Azetecs have gone through drastic changes and slow changes, all except the Harrapan have become extinct, because of continuity of culture.

Cultures should be eco-friendly: 1) Still some people to eat in banana leaf, sitting in queue on the ground.
2) Dragon Boat Festival of China –cooked rice is fed to the fishes.

No Discrimination: All (in local culture of India) have to sit together whether he of a high or low rank or family. They wear their traditional dresses, speak local language and enjoy up to their fill.

Imitation destroys us: What ever is increasing should be taken or learnt from others but we should not forget our cultures goodness in front of others. If reasonable and suitable then only we should take some little part of others cultures to assimilate in ours, but we should not totally give up ours or else we should be of no where.

Cultures Unite: As East Germany and West Germany were united again after about 50 years. We can hope that some day  same strong culture of India and Pakistan will once again unite to be one as Hindustan and Bharat
1) Security and peace: If local cultures are preserved, life would be more secure and happy because cultural items, may it be folk dances\songs or festivals. Martial art, handicrafts, art painting any thing-but cultural items
do not need much stress of finance science and technology. Every thing is simple glorious and beautiful.

2) Following local cultures is economical: Science and technology has not entered in our local and remote areas in true sense so following a local culture is better.

Also science and technology is very costly, for example if instead of our local folk dances and songs we see at place we go to  see on TV, then first we need to buy TV then electricity and all. Everyone cannot afford all this.

3)Local cultures are best: Things made in machine some times is not so nice and descent with varieties local culture products are pleasurable giving, easy and open for all. Cultures should be open to all. Culture should be such that they should assimilate all with love and oneness.

Survival of the fittest C.Darwin: One who does not change according to the need vanishes. Example-Is there any sense in grinding wheat flour in saddler’s querns when we have flour mills to do it in seconds.
Survival of the fittest theory of C.DARWIN can be said to be a universal truth which can be implemented on the local cultures. If one sticks to the local cultures too much then he cannot survive for last. It will have to be extinct cultures have two ways:-

1) Either they should change other cultures into their own, but it is not a easy task.

2) Change yourself: This is easy in comparison to the first one. Change may be slow but it really works. Only we need is that to change ourselves according to surrounding or environment.

PRESERVING A CULTURE OF VERY PAST HAS SOME DISADVANTAGES OR NEGATIVE ASPECTS

DISADVANTAGES:-

1) Speed of development is slow: If we stick to our local cultures for a long time without bringing any major change then our speed of development slows down.

2) Backwardness if tied with the past: If we stick to local culture hard and fast we cannot make pace with the development around us. So we remain backward while the others go ahead of us.

3) Same things some times create boredom: If cultural exchanges are not there then some thing doing\occurring repeatedly brings boredom in our life. The spirit-yawns for some newness.

4) Local cultural-bounds, find uneasy to adjust with other cultures: People of one culture when need to go to other people life becomes very tough for them. They do not find easy going in other cultures it becomes difficult to adjust.

5) Few local culture still treat themselves superior: Few local cultures do not treat other cultures equal to them as in MAHARASTRA, Mr. Bal Thackeray thinks north Indians are corrupted. So much economic destruction is caused.

6)Cultures create separatism: Again I would keep MAHARASTRA culture here as example of separatism  bringing a lot of pain and sufferings to so many others.

Matrimonial Relation cannot be done between people of different cultures easily. Thus there is separatism as well. Even if such relations are made. One has to face a lot such as reverned,Mrs.Sonia Gandhi being of Swiss culture is still not considered of Indian culture and now and then reminded of her being outsider. Such are the ways of local cultures at GLOBAL villages.

7)  High cultured and low cultured gap still observed:  Imperialism and colonialism has ended but still in some pockets of the world in various forms. Superior and inferior culture matter is still in the minds of some resulting in disunity.

8) Misuse of time in modern scientific society: Following local cultures seems odd in this modern, fast and highly scientific and technical age. Why to be distinct and aloof when due to modern means we can have fast and better ways to go ahead.

CONCLUSION:

Unan, misr, roma sab mit gaye jahan se
Baaki raha hai lekin namo Nissan hamara

Kuch baat hai ki hasti mit nahi hamerein
Sadiyon rahaa hai dushman daure zamaa hamara
Sarein jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara.

                                                                 Dr.Allama Iqbal

In these lines of Dr.Allama Iqbal lies the secret of longevity of us Indians.
It is due to our culture of assimilation, sharing, caring, cooperation that India had reached to its glory but due to lack of cultural growth, and its position has declined due to which it had to go into slavery of European.

But once again cultural up gradation is going on so we have a bright future forward. So vehemently most of us are of the opinion that local culture should be preserved otherwise we would be betrayed

India is looked upon for its ancient achievements that we have once again to regain and develop. And all this can be done by preserving our culture.

Role of Teachers in National Development

The teacher is one of the pillars of the society and the country. Without good teachers, no country can progress. The importance of teachers in the life of a nation cannot be overlooked. The teacher influences the immature minds of-the youth. He treats and moulds the young mind into various forms. The future of the nation is built him through the process of education. As nation which tries to march ahead on the road to progress must do so with the help of able teachers. A nation cannot afford to leave its future in the hands of incompetent teachers. According to a philosopher, "The world of tomorrow will be born from the schools of today." Thus the teacher is very significant as the builder of the nation.

India is known for its great teachers. In the past, there were highly competent teachers. They were held in high esteem by all sections of the society. Even the kings and rulers paid great respect to them. They used to look up to their teachers for guidance and advice in the hour of crisis. In those days, teachers were the true benefactors of society. They were the trustees of common welfare. History is full of examples that great decisions of vital importance were taken by kings on the advice of their teachers or gurus. Alexander, the Great was indebted to his teacher, Aristotle for the knowledge and advice given to him from time to time. Thus teachers in the past enjoyed a place of esteem and reverence. However, those times have passed. Now the teacher does not hold as much esteem as he did in the past. Teachers have lost their old glory. Now they are looked down upon in society. Their economic condition is also miserable. We know that our country is economically backward and the standard of the masses is very low. Burin this system, the teacher stands on the lowest rung of the ladder.

Moreover, the nature of society has changed. We have become materialistic. In this society, only those people command respects that have power and money. Thus an illiterate minister gets more respect than a highly qualified and scholarly teacher. The society of the past which respected teachers has vanished. The poor teacher does not enjoy much prestige in the society of today. The proliferation of private schools, which are merely teaching shops, is another reason of the decline of a teacher's prestige. These schools employ teachers at very low salaries and the teachers cannot give his best to the students. The teacher suffers in many other ways also. A person who fails in getting a job and is rejected by his employers, blames his teachers for his own failures. In this way also, the teaching profession has been disgraced. As less attention is paid to education these days, he teacher has also lost prestige.  There is a great dissatisfaction and frustration among teachers. Working conditions in schools and colleges are appalling. It is very sad that the persons in charge of education are themselves quite ignorant. They look down upon teachers as mere employees and nothing else. In such conditions, the teacher feels helpless and frustrated.  To some extent, teachers are also to be blamed for this state of affairs. Many teachers also look upon their duty as a service only. In the present time many incompetent teachers get jobs through bribery or approach. Such teachers do not build the society; they destroy it. They mar the future of their students. Such teachers indulge in mal practices. They form unions and ignore the teaching work. They do not have any rapport with students. They exploit students for their own selfish purposes. Such teachers are responsible for spoiling the image of the whole teaching community. The importance of the teacher in national life cannot be over-emphasized. It is he who influences the immature minds of the youth. He treats and tries to mould the living stuff into various forms. The future of the nation is fashioned by him through the process of education. A nation trying to march ahead on the roads to progress can leave the education of her sons and daughter in the hands of incompetent teachers only at its own risk. "The world of tomorrow will be born from the schools of today" says M.L Jacks. In this way, teachers, indeed, is the true builder of the nation.
In the past, teachers were held by all in the highest esteem. Even kings and emperors used to look upto them for guidance and advice in hours of crisis. As a matter of fact, teachers were the trustees of common welfare. Teachers in those days days were the true benefactors of society. History is full of examples which clearly show that great decisions of vital importance to the whole nation were taken on the directions of the teachers. Such was the importance which was enjoyed by teachers in the past. Times have now undergone, a tremendous change. teachers have lost their old glory. they are now looked down upon in society. Their economic condition is simply miserable. Even the Government peons are better off than the primary, junior, and even High School teachers. We all know that economically our country is backward and the standard of living of the masses is low. In a country of such low standards, the teacher stands at the lowest rung of the ladder. Besides this, we live in a materialistic world. Only those command respect and position in society who have enough money. The teacher, being poor, does not enjoy any prestige in society. He suffers in many other ways also. It has become a common feeling with the people that, one who fails everywhere else and has been rejected at all other places, becomes teacher as a last resort. In this way also teaching profession has been down-graded, their services are considered non essential and thus they do not get necessary recognition fro society. There is great dissatisfaction and frustration among them. Working conditions in schools and colleges are appalling. It is needed very sad that such persons are in charge of education as are themselves quite ignorant. They often treat teachers as their domestic servants. Teachers remain helpless in getting such shocking conditions improved. Education is a complicated process. Not only the teacher, but so many other agencies also take part in educating the youth. We are all aware of the influence of the cinema on the minds of children. How quickly they imitate the ways of dressing, walking and talking of their favorite stars is a matter of common experience. The television has also become quite popular. This too has its influence on children. Various other public activities like elections and meetings of political parties also serve as agencies of education. Rather, he has a very limited influence. Today, education is increasingly being regarded as the major weapon in the crusade for supremacy on the economic front. Television, telephone and computers are reshaping practically every walk of life, including education. The classrooms of tomorrow could be entirely different fro those of today. The teachers will play a very significant role. It would not only be complex but also full of challenges, because dependence on the teacher will gradually diminish for an individual leaner. The television, telephone and computer will take over and encourage self-learning. Distance education may reduce the need to devote much time within the four walls of the classroom. New techniques of assessment will be available to the realistic assessment would also provide an opportunity for self-directed improvement by the learner, which is rare in the existing system. However, the situation is not so depressing for a teacher. The importance of the role of the teachers as an agent of change, promoting understanding and tolerance has become more obvious and is likely to become even more critical in the 21st century . This places enormous responsibilities on teachers who participate in the molding of the character and minds of the new generation. Indeed, it will be unfortunate for our country, if conditions of the teaching profession are allowed to deteriorate further. Let all round improvement be made in the conditions of the teachers without any further delay. Then only they will be able to play their vital role as nation builders. Then alone will education become a vital source of national integration.
